Words of Wisdom 125 On Transformation Through Surrender
2
:Seek to continually be in a
state of surrender to God.
3
:Being surrendered to God means you
are present, willing, and accepting.
4
:When you are in a state of
surrender, you are present in
5
:the moment, connected to God.
6
:You are willing to receive God's
love and welcome His presence.
7
:You are His, surrendered fully to Him.
8
:You are not too hurried
to notice God's direction.
9
:You're seeking Him each
morning and opening your heart
10
:to Him throughout the day.
11
:When you are in a state of
surrender, you are willing to
12
:do whatever God wants of you.
13
:You are openly seeking God's
will and direction for your life.
14
:You are not taking control of your life.
15
:You are entrusting that
control over to God.
16
:Instead of being driven by fear
and the unknown, when you are
17
:surrendered to God, you live in
a trusting relationship with Him.
18
:The state of surrender is optimistic.
19
:And open to God, who you trust is at
work, regardless of what you can see.
20
:When you are in a state of surrender,
you are accepting of suffering.
21
:You can accept comfort in His
loving presence, as well as
22
:suffering, loss, and the desolation
of not feeling God's presence.
23
:You can accept the bitter and the sweet.
24
:Come what may, you are His.
25
:Whether you understand why you are
suffering does not ultimately matter.
26
:What you decide to do in the midst
of suffering is what matters.
27
:You can open your heart to God.
28
:You can welcome the highs
and lows of life with a quiet
29
:acceptance and a courageous faith.
30
:When you are surrendered, you
don't need things to go your way.
31
:You can lose yourself to God
and desire only what He desires.
32
:The furnace of suffering reveals
the treasures of transformation,
33
:so do not spurn its refining fire.
34
:Make your highest aim in life
this one simple intention: to be
35
:in a state of surrender to God.
36
:Quotes
37
:The deepest things that I have learned
in my own life have come from the deepest
38
:suffering, and out of the deepest waters
and the hottest fires have come the
39
:deepest things that I know about God.
40
:And I imagine that most of you
would say exactly the same.
41
:And I would add this, that the
greatest gifts of my life have also
42
:entailed the greatest suffering.
43
:The greatest gifts of my
life, for example, have been
44
:marriage and motherhood.
45
:And let's not forget that if we don't
ever want to suffer, we must be very
46
:careful never to love anything or anybody.
47
:The gifts of love have been
the gifts of suffering.
48
:Those two things are inseparable."
49
:By Elizabeth Elliot, in her book
Suffering is Never for Nothing
50
:" These four practices, silence and
solitude, Sabbath, simplicity, and
51
:slowing, have helped me tremendously
to move toward abiding as my baseline.
52
:But to say it yet again, all four
of them are a means to an end.
53
:The end isn't silence and solitude.
54
:It's to come back to
God in our true selves.
55
:It isn't Sabbath.
56
:It's a restful, grateful life of ease,
appreciation, wonder, and worship.
57
:It isn't simplicity.
58
:It's freedom and focus
on what matters most.
59
:It isn't even slowing.
60
:It's to be present, to God,
to people, to the moment.
61
:And the goal is practice, not perfection.
62
:Multiple times a day I
slip back into hurry.
63
:The gravitational pull
is overwhelming at times.
64
:Lately, when that happens, I
have this little mantra I repeat.
65
:Slow down, breathe, come back to the
moment, receive the good as gift,
66
:accept the hard as a pathway to peace.
67
:Abide.
68
:By John Mark Comer.
69
:In his book, The Ruthless
Elimination of Hurry.
70
:Questions.
71
:What do you need to let go of?
72
:Will you surrender your greatest
fear and your greatest pain to God?
73
:What is God asking you to do or to feel?
74
:Use these questions as a journal prompt
and to guide your prayers this week.
75
:End note.
76
:Seek today to be fully surrendered to God.
77
:It's the only way to true flourishing.
78
:Live wisely.
